A TV cannot hang on panelling
MDF panels are decorative. A television bracket has to fix back to a stud, a purpose- fitted noggin, or the masonry behind — with any void packed out. It gets planned before the panels go on, or it means taking them off again.
Slat panels are not soundproofing
They absorb sound inside the room, which softens echo and is genuinely useful. They do not stop sound reaching the room next door. That is insulation, it is a different job, and no amount of slat panelling delivers it.
Bathrooms need the right board
Moisture-resistant board, every cut edge sealed, nothing in the splash zone, and working ventilation. Standard MDF looks identical once painted and fails within a couple of years. Check what a cheap bathroom quote is priced on.
Real work, or nothing at all
Panelling websites are full of beautiful photographs, and a great many of them are stock images or someone else's work. It is a visual trade, which makes a fake gallery both more tempting and easier to catch — reverse image search takes about four seconds.

Wall area matters less than you would think. What moves the price is the number of individual panels, how flat the wall is, whether battens are needed to level it, what is fixed to it, and — the big one — whether painting is included.
You will not find a "from £X per square metre" figure on this site. We do not have genuine local job data yet, and inventing a number to attract clicks is exactly the behaviour that makes people distrust trade websites. When we publish ranges they will carry the date, the assumptions and where the numbers came from.

How much does wall panelling cost?
It depends on the style, the wall and the finish, and anyone quoting a figure before seeing those is guessing. Shaker panelling on a flat modern wall is a very different job from the same design on a bowed Victorian wall that needs battening out first. Whether painting is included is often the single biggest difference between two quotes that look wildly apart.
MDF or solid timber?
MDF for almost all painted panelling, and that is not a compromise — it is stable, has no grain to fill and takes paint better than timber. Solid timber earns its place where the panelling is being stained rather than painted, in a listed building, or where it has to match existing historic joinery.
Will panelling hide my uneven walls?
Partly, and it depends on the style. Panelling with a solid backing board or full-height battens can be packed level and give you a genuinely flat surface on a wall that never will be. Shaker panelling leaves the wall showing through the middle of every frame, so a poor surface is still on display inside it.
Can I hang a TV on panelling?
Not on the panelling itself — MDF panels are decorative and will not carry a television. The bracket has to fix back to the structure behind: a stud, a purpose-fitted noggin, or the masonry with any void packed out. It needs planning before the panels go on, so say in your enquiry if a TV is going up.
What happens to my sockets and switches?
They need bringing forward to sit flush with the new surface, which means extending the back boxes. That is electrical work under Part P of the building regulations and wants a qualified electrician. It affects both the price and the running order, so it is worth flagging early.
Can panelling go in a bathroom?
Yes, with moisture-resistant board, every cut edge sealed, nothing in the direct splash zone and decent ventilation. Standard MDF in a bathroom swells and the joints open up, usually within a couple of years. If a bathroom quote looks unusually cheap, check which board it is priced on.
Does slat panelling soundproof a room?
No. It absorbs sound within the room, which reduces echo and is genuinely useful in a hard-surfaced office. It does not stop sound passing through the wall to the next room — that needs proper sound insulation, which is a different job. Anyone selling slat panels as soundproofing is overselling them.
